Follow me Twitter and Facebook. I was recently asked by a good friend and patient how I might distinguish Essence of Eve Day Med Spa from other spas. While I searched deeply for something “different” to write, I resolved to simply share this story. It speaks more than any words I might write to you.
The five years we were located in historical downtown McKinney we were blessed with so many who crossed through our doorway. However, I will never, ever, forget meeting this family nor the impact they have had on me and my staff.
Three years ago, our “quiet area” was filled one day with a large group of male and female family members who had scheduled several services that day. Unknowingly, until later during the day, we learned this family group had come to grieve over the recent loss of their father.
Since that day for the past three years, every 3 or 4 months the matriarch and her grown daughters would come to receive spa services with us. The weekend before we were to close our downtown location these three strong women scheduled their regular services. Greeting them as usual I spoke with them about our excitement over relocating to our new location. I thought I sensed a slight twinge of trepidation from one of the daughters. I considered my misreading her and without skipping a beat we moved them on into their respective services.
A while later after receiving all of their services, as they lingered in the reception area, I went out to bid them goodbye. I could feel hesitation in the air of their departing. I had said my goodbyes, turned to leave when I heard one of them speak my name. I turned and one of the daughters walked towards me and handed me a white envelope. Beautiful eyes looked deeply into mine as she spoke attempting to tell me in that moment what our spa had meant to their family. For you see, their father had chosen to end his life, leaving no note, no explanation and a family struggling to understand. She said, “I don’t know if you remember but” I interrupted her with, “I remember.” She didn’t need to say more but she did.
As she spoke her eyes filled with tears telling me they would come to Essence of Eve for comfort. Not only was it a place they began to grieve they also began to heal. Part of her note reads,
“Dear Darla & Staff,
My family started visiting “Essence of Eve” more frequently after my Dad passed away in June ’06. You may remember us, we all have matching tattoos on our backs of the date he passed away. The name “Essence of Eve” is synonymous with the word “healing” to me. Over the past two and one half years it has truly been a place of healing for me and my family. I have always come away feeling refreshed and more hopeful. I pray God continues to use you and your therapists to touch the lives of others. Thank you for your openness to God and all that you offer.”
Enclosed within her note was a photocopy of this page dated August 10th from a book, “Journey to The Heart.” This page was entitled, “Find Places of Healing.” Part of it read,
“Find places of healing. Then go there often. They are yours for the asking, yours for the seeking. Healing places are an important part of the journey, a peaceful place, one of nourishment, replenishment, peace, safety, comfort, and joy. It’s a place of love and acceptance. It is a place of forgiveness, honesty, openness, nurturing and kindness. You will recognize it instantly because of how it feels. It will bring you back to center. It will bring you back to calm. It will bring you back to joy.”
The new location is everything about the old location but more. Be embraced by the color palette especially inspired for you by Him through me. Suspend time by observing the majestic parts of His creation in our shared Quiet Room. Be still and simply breathe in the Prayer and Solitude Room.
Yes, we have absolutely wonderful services - wonderful cosmetic surgical procedures, facials, massages, nail services, laser procedures – as many spas do. We have a presence in this place, this healing place. Thank you Katy and family for your inspiration to continue to do what we do, be who we are and serve who we serve!
In His Grip,
Darla and Staff
As you know, the spa reopened at the new location September 11th. I have spoken endlessly about this being my ministry and my staff and I have served in this capacity over the years.
After a long struggle to get this new place, God just placed His blessing on it Oct. 1. I had just finished a meeting and a really good friend ran in the spa and asked me to come outside to see a message from God.
Just when you think God is not paying attention, you receive a gift such as I did today--the rainbow.
